Some Thoughts on Open Carry
From the picture, help Shaun and Christine change Tennessee state laws. Shaun and Christine are Patriot Training Alums.
To be fair, Tennessee would be better served by removing from our state laws the prohibition of wearing arms for the purpose of "going armed."
Nevertheless, let's talk about why it is important to have open carry.
Caveat
Of note, the 1st Amendment does not protect nice and polite speech. There is no need to protect polite and nice speech. The 1st Amendment protects offensive speech.
The Idea
"A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed"
The key word here is "bear." Nope - this does not refer to a brown furry animal that might eat you. As used herein, the word "bear" means to wear and display in public.
Make no mistake, in modern society, the open carry of pistols (or rifles or shotguns for that matter) is not ideal for self defense. Most self defense experts suggest concealed carry - the idea of having the element of surprise being the critical part. But just because open carry is not ideal does not mean we should ban it. And we certainly do not have the right to ban open carry.
Another need for open carry:
In the event that a person picks up the phone and calls 911, and there is no answer (it has happened several times in major cities in the US since 2020), then the next thing the person needs to pick up is a rifle. When one carries a rifle for defense and offense, then one is wise to open carry a pistol to compliment the rifle, should the rifle fail to function. A transition is faster than a malfunction clearing.
And another:
Open carry is needed to push the conversation, BECAUSE it is uncomfortable for the other side. The Lord knows the other side does not mind making us uncomfortable, and that is how they succeed in getting cross dresser story hours in schools, etc. We must fight fire with fire to continue to preserve our rights. Being conservative will not conserve anything.

Here is a blog post that spells out some of the arguments for Open Carry.
Abstract
Just like we need the "cop watchers" who are jerks to police officers, we also need the bold people who open carry and make the Left aware of the fact that people carry guns and have a right to do so. The First Amendment Auditors make sure that free speech is not infringed. Similarly we also need the Second Amendment to suffer no further infringements.
The Reason
Concealed carry does not spark conversations. Concealed carry concedes to the Left, and takes the guns out of sight, and makes things comfortable for the Left. That comfort is what they spring forth from to attack and push us back.
Open carry makes the Left face the facts that life is fragile, they are not always in control, and freedom is dangerous. Concealed carry does this only when a bad person attacks a good person. And then, only that bad person is party to the conversation.
Conclusion
If you truly believe the 2nd Amendment must be preserved in some way, and that open carry may be "going a bit too far," and still we must be permitted the right to keep and bear; then OPEN CARRY IS A MUST. Open Carry is the only extreme that will preserve the healthy midpoint.
