Some things to consider for your trunk gun:
You may or may not want your trunk gun to be your primary SHTF rifle. If you travel far, and have to park in areas where theft may be a concern, then you may prefer to have a relatively inexpensive trunk gun instead of your primary SHTF rifle.
If you primarily stay closer to home, and your parking areas are not a prime theft area, then maybe your trunk gun should be your primary SHTF rifle.
If you are travelling with your family, or friends with whom you would otherwise be bugging out; then maybe it would be a good idea to bring your primary SHTF rifle as your trunk gun.
As always, consult your local laws as to the legality of keeping a rifle in your trunk.
