Perhaps This One
To understand this post, you must know that Lefty dislikes the song Sweet Caroline. Although I do not detest it, it is certainly overplayed, to say the least. Also, Lefty and I come from a generation where you don't have to like all the same things to be friends. It's ok to not always agree 100%.
The other day, I got to thinking. I was listening to the song Red Red Wine by UB40.
First thought was this: if you were born when that song was released, UB40 now!
Dad-joke out of the way, I recalled that the song was not written by UB40. A quick Google search showed it was written by Neil Diamond. The same Neil Diamond that wrote Sweet Caroline. And, if I am being fair, I do not care for Neil Diamond's version of Red Red Wine. This was inspiration!
Perhaps there is a version of Sweet Caroline by another artist that Lefty might enjoy. Or, at least, not hate. So I went to the internet and discovered some of the more popular, and some of the more out of the way covers of Sweet Caroline. The purpose is to catalogue them here so Lefty can link to them, and see if there is a version that is more palatable.
Sweet Caroline Covers, by artist:
Frank Sinatra - yes, 'Ol Blue Eyes himself.
Elvis - yes, the King. There were a lot of songs that Elvis did, that were also performed by Sinatra.
Me First and the Gimme Gimmes - this one sounds similar to Green Day more or less. This might be my favorite on the list.
Luke Bryan - I am not going to call him a Country star, though my son certainly would.
Metallica - it's not as heavy as you might think. And it is Robert Trujillo singing, not James Hetfield.
FWIW, they are all better than Neil Diamond's version, IMO.
Small World
There is another song I know of that several artists listed in this blog post all sang. Specifically, Sinatra, Elvis, and UB40 all did a rendition of a song. Know which one? Leave it in the comments.
Know of any other crossovers within these artists? Leave it in the comments.
