M1 Carbine as a Minuteman Rifle

Let's review the M1 Carbine as a Minuteman Rifle.

As pictured, the M1 Carbine has a 30-round magazine, as well as two pockets in the bandolier, each with a 15-round magazine. That's 60 total rounds. Not a lot, but another bag with magazines could be added with minimal weight.

The ideal Minuteman Rifle (MR) is an AR15. A distant, but distinct second, is the AK47.
Here's how the M1 Carbine stacks up to those rifles:

Capacity:
Good. 30-round mags are available. 15-rounders are more reliable. Both are fairly inexpensive, if somewhat difficult to find.

Reloading:
Good. Second only to the AR15.

Accuracy:
Fair. These are often capable of 2-3 MOA.

Weight:
At just over 5 pounds, weight for the M1 Carbine is best of the entire group.

Cost:
At $500+, this is one is so-so. Not bad, but not outstanding, either. Decent.

Reliability:

Very good.

Range:
The .30-caliber carbine round is the weakest of the bunch. Keep it under 200 yards.

Magazines / clips:

Fairly inexpensive. 30-round and 15-round versions are available. Not as universally found as an AR mag, but are easier to find than an AR mag.

Upgrades:
DON'T!

  2. Good review. Of course, scavenging ammo for the M1Carbine would simply never work.

  3. A million dead Germans and Japs would be a testament to the effectiveness.

    1. Tough question. They aren't commonly found. Gun stores usually don't have them. Gun shows occasionally do.
