Dependence

A really good quote came across my desk in an email recently:

When you work for government, you work for government for a reason.
And the reason is you have no interest in wealth, you have no interest in independence.
You have an interest in routine, you have interest in stability, you have an interest in guarantees.
See all those words?  You put them all together.  What do they spell?
They spell, "I don't care about the good life, I don't care about independence, I'm afraid...
...
If you work for government, dependence is the name of the game.

For the record: "top government" officials (Congress, etc.) are different in that they are the 500 - 600 "power-driven" type individuals who want to influence people and feel like they have "ultimate authority."
