Marriage Isn’t Love, It’s a Gamble

A reader writes in:
"You have been married so long, but you do not advise men to get married? Make it make sense!"

Here’s the truth: this author has been married 27+ years at the time of this post. One more fact matters: between 1997 and 2002, this author attended many weddings. And yet, only one of those marriages is still intact—and this post comes from the husband in that singular anomaly.

Firsthand experience shows how many marriages do not work... 
Statistics show the most likely outcome in marriage is divorce: 75%+++

Imagine paying for a skydive and the worker saying, “Hey, 75% or more of the parachutes do not open.” Would anyone do it? Of course not. Insane. The fact that one of the few parachutes actually works proves only that it’s possible—not that it should be tried. Looking back at all the weddings attended from 1997–2002, this remains the only one still intact. This is a scream from the rooftops: “Don’t go skydiving—the parachutes do not work! This was the only one that did. The odds are stacked against you!!!”

Fact: If you choose to get married, YOU will get divorced, whether you want to or not; even and especially if you think you found the exception. Your prenup won't work. You will be taken to the cleaners. 

Having seen the wreckage, this isn’t theory—it’s the truth: the odds are stacked terribly against a man. A marriage surviving is not a recommendation for others—it’s a statistical anomaly, a fluke in a system rigged for failure.

In other words, this experience proves success is possible, not probable. That distinction is crucial: too many men hear, “It worked for him, it’ll work for me,” and ignore the structural risks seen firsthand.

A Few Updates on an Older Post

This post to serve as an update on a post that is over 10 years old. The Rifleman has a strong memory (from time to time). On that post, a reader asked, "Any word? How did the remand hearing go?" For reasons that are not pertinent to this post, the Rifleman did not neglect to answer this question, but instead, postponed the answer until a more appropriate time. This time has come.  In the remand, it is important to first state a particular fact: The judge that issued the ruling, Tom Gray, retired shortly after his errant ruling. As a matter of fact, four of his last five rulings (the author's brother's ruling being one of these) were overturned in appellate courts. Divorce ruling appeal successful . False Arrests

A Tennessee State Trooper has arrested (at least) 8 SOBER people for DUI.  Here is a YouTube video on the false arrest.  Here is a video on the issue by Steve Lehto.  There are several questions that come to mind here.  1. How many more people were falsely arrested by this trooper? 2. How many people have been falsely arrested by other troopers in a similar manner?  3. Why has the Tennessee Highway Patrol not already fired this trooper, and made a public statement distancing themselves from this practice? 4. Why does Governor Lee refuse to acknowledge the problem? Is he simply unaware?  5. Was it just this trooper and just his ego?  6. Were quotas at the root of this problem?  That last question is the one I am most curious about.  Of course, someone will invariably come along and make the claim that since Tennessee has banned quotas by law enforcement departments, that there are simply no quotas being enforced.
